Research summary
In this study participants will be asked to wear a device, called an accelerometer, on their wrist and ankle. These devices measure how we move and our activity. Participants will complete a series of motor assessments (moving their hand and arms) and a walking test whilst wearing the devices. In addition, participants will be asked to wear the devices for 24 hours whilst going about their usual daily activities and overnight whilst they sleep, for one day a fortnight. This study will involve six assessment time points over twelve weeks. The main focus of this study is to understand more about how people with motor neuron disease find wearing a sensor, both in their usual activities and for structured motor assessments. Participants will complete a questionnaire at the start, middle and end of the study to provide feedback on their experience of using the devices. In addition, participants will complete a standard questionnaire assessment of physical function, so we can explore how the data from the devices is similar to, or different from, their questionnaire.
