  • Research summary

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is a long term physical health condition where there can be high rates of anxiety and depression and those living with the condition can struggle to manage their wellbeing. Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services routinely deliver effective psychological treatments, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that address patient self-care and wellbeing. Effective treatments are available, but the treatment perspectives of cardiac patients in IAPT services are yet to be explored. This research intends to explore the acceptability and feasibility of CBT interventions for cardiac patients with mental health co-morbidities in IAPT services at North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust, using semi-structured interviews and framework analysis to address the research question.
