Research summary
This study is being carried out to test whether a new high energy plant-based style oral nutritional supplement (ONS) is acceptable to people who need extra help to meet their nutrition needs.
The study will be carried out in participants ≥ 18 years of age that require nutritional supplementation who are able to consent. Following recruitment to the study, relevant medical/nutritional information will be recorded, along with baseline gastrointestinal (GI) tolerance data. Participants height and weight will be measured and BMI calculated at the start of the study.
Participants will then change to / start AYMES BOWIE for a period of 7 days in the intervention period. GI tolerance and compliance (how much of the supplement was taken) will be recorded daily for 7 days. On the final day (day 7) an palatability and preference questionnaire will be completed and the participant will be re-weighed. If the study finds that the new high-energy plant based ONS is acceptable, it will potentially allow for a greater choice of high calorie supplements in the future. The information collected will help support an application for this product to be registered for use as a prescribable product by the government.
The research has been funded by AYMES International Ltd and is being run by healthcare professionals.
