Research summary
Constipation is a common problem in people who have Learning Disabilities (LD) and has a significant effect on quality of life and NHS resources. Abdominal massage has been shown to help alleviate the symptoms in some other populations. We want to undertake a pilot study of administering abdominal massage (either manually or by device) compared to no abdominal massage. Out aim is to see if such a study is feasible in people who have LD.
