  • Research summary

The aim of this study is to identify the barriers and facilitators to effective care for chronic kidney disease patients with severe mental health difficulties (SMHDs), from patient, family member/carer and healthcare provider perspectives. We will interview chronic kidney patients with a previous SMHD diagnosis (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or major depression), their family members/carers, and healthcare providers. Questions will relate to barriers and facilitators to effective care for chronic kidney patients with SMHDs. Interviews will be transcribed verbatim and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Findings will inform the development of targeted support for individuals with concurrent kidney disease and SMHDs.
