Research summary
There has been no validation of blood pressure measurements taken by a blood pressure cuff and measurements taken by an invasive arterial line in those at risk of cardiovascular disease.
This is especially important in those with congenital abnormalities of the limbs, for example those affected by thalidomide. Many experience difficulties in monitoring their blood pressure, in particular those with an upper limb difference. Currently we don't know how a blood pressure measurement taken in the leg accurately compares with a blood pressure measurement in the body (intra-arterially) either in those with or without limb abnormalities who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease.REC name
