Research summary
This study aims to allow patients with metastatic advanced breast cancer to consent to a research biopsy being taken from their tumour for scientific research. Research will include studies of the tumours genetic material and proteins. A sample of the tumour may be grown in the laboratory to study how treatments work on the tumour. Patient will also consent to provide a blood test. Cancers release their genetic material (DNA) into the blood and this study will examine the extent to which analysis of a simple blood test may provide the same information as the tumour biopsy.
