Research summary
Abetalipoproteinemia, (ABL) is a rare inherited disorder that affects the normal breakdown and digestion of certain types of fat and vitamins and can make you more prone to liver disease. This study will look at members of a family that have this gene defect and those that are only mildly affected and compare them with 2 control groups, a liver disease group and a healthy control group (both without ABL). All groups will be given a standard fatty meal and the their response will be measured by measuring the lipid levels in their blood samples over time.
The findings will allow us to be able to provide specific dietary advice and interventions in the future and better manage the individual members and family as a whole.REC name
