  • Research summary

In this study, I am planning to evaluate the clinical and radiographic (x-rays) outcomes of tooth auto-transplants in children and adolescents.

    definition of tooth auto-transplant:
It is a surgical procedure which involves tooth extraction from one position known as a donor tooth and replantation of the tooth either in the same or another different position known as recipient site inside the mouth of the same person

The success of tooth autotransplantation in a growing child patient depends on several factors, some are related to the patient itself, the donor tooth, recipient site and others are related to the treatment.

The aims of our study are to evaluate the outcomes of tooth auto-transplants and to identify the prognostic factors that could influence the success or failure of auto-transplantation. Indeed, we also plan to study each factor individually and in combination with each other by using statistical modelling.

To achieve this we will review the dental records of all children and adolescents who received teeth auto-transplant at the Leeds Dental Institute over the period of January 2000 to April 2014. The researchers will go through the patient records and retrieve information from these using a predesigned data extraction form to capture important information according to the protocol. By doing this we will be able to identify some key factors which might affect the outcome (survival, success, failure, pulp healing, periodontal healing and gingival healing) of teeth auto-transplant.
