Research summary
Six patients who have suspected APD, medical notes will be retrospectively looked at and all factors and co-morbidities for their initial referral and the history taken by the AVP during the consultation will be listed. The content of this list will then be confirmed, modified and added to by 2 expert consultants in the field this will be the preliminary list only, which will be sent to all experts nationally and internationally.
Step 1: Expert Opinion
Using the Preliminary List of reasons for referral for APD, the experts in the field will modify the list to make it more succinct, using their knowledge and expertise to establish all known reasons for referral. Using this now, more succinct list, the experts will rank the options by prevalence: never, sometimes, often, most often or always using their own population of patients in their clinics. This will be the Classification Tool.Step 2: Pilot Study: Evaluation and Reliability of Classification tool
This Classification Tool will then be used in a clinical setting for 3-months. The consultants (rater 1) and primary investigator (rater 2) will use the Classification Tool on the paediatric patients and parents, once during the consultation part of the appointment. This will be statistically analysed to see if there is any correlation between the 2 raters.Reliability of analysis: Intra class correlation coefficient (ICC) will be used to evaluate the correlation between the 2 consultants the 1st rater, versus the primary investigator as the 2nd rater.
