Research summary
This is an exploration of the experiences of people suffering with unexplained chest pain. Unexplained chest pain is a symptom of chest pain that has no obvious physical basis. Eligible participants have attended hospital with chest pain on several occasions and undergone numerous investigations. Patients with unexplained chest pain often have a poor quality of life and frequently attend medical services. This study hopes to help understand the problem from the patient's perspective and improve services for future patients. The participants will attend for one open ended interview with the researcher, away from the hospital setting. They will be encouraged to talk freely about their life and experiences of having chest pain. The interview will be tape-recorded and the results will form the basis of a Professional Doctorate thesis. Potential participants will be identified by the researcher as she encounters them in her role as a Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology.
