  • Research summary

Broadmoor hospital was founded in 1863 and has been in operation for over 150 years. It is preparing to move to a new site, due for completion by March 2017. The aim of this study is to explore the psychosocial experience of patients, as they make the transition and adapt to a new hospital setting. The study will detail the process and expected outcomes of this transition and will provide a detailed account of the opening of the new high security hospital. Through exploring the transition, the study will help inform practice in relation to making such a transition to a new hospital setting.

The main research questions are; 1.What is the psychosocial experience for patients when making the transition to a new hospital setting? What is their experience ‘before’ moving and ‘after’ moving? How do patients prepare and adapt to a new environment?

2.What impact does the transition have on the expected benefits from the redevelopment?
