Research summary
This study aims to pilot the methods for recruiting participants to a comparative study of perspectives of male and female patients with alcohol problems.
The study aims to have a sample size of 46-76 patients and will recruit participants from patients who are offered the questionnaire at out patient clinics for alcohol misuse or dependency at The Timmermarket Clinic at the Integrated Drug and Alcohol services and Fulton Clinics at the Royal Cornhill Hospital.
Patient’s perspectives will be examined using the revised Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQ-R). The IPQ-R is a Validated tool developed to examine cognitive representations of illness.
Secondly the study aims to provide preliminary findings to help inform sample size calculation for future study’s comparing the perspectives of male and female patients with alcohol problems.
