Research summary
This study will follow up the 3rd Generation Study participants at 3 years of age. The 3rd Generation Study is a birth cohort born to participants of the 1989/90 Isle of Wight Birth Cohort Study. The 3rd Generation participants have been seen during infancy when information about the environmental exposures including microbial exposure and epigenetics (chemical markings on DNA) has been collected. This study aims to determine the allergic disease status and investigate the role of epigenetic markers in asthma and allergy, and how these changes during infancy (from previous study) affect the development of allergic diseases. To explore how the genetics, epigenetic markers and environmental exposures interact increasing the risk of developing allergic diseases.
