  • Research summary

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease involving abnormal collections of inflammatory cells forming lumps known as granulomas. The disease commonly involves the lungs. The purpose of this project is to undertake a retrospective study of the follow up of incidental findings of thoracic lymph nodal non-caseating granulomas in a UK cohort. We wish to determine whether these patients develop progressive thoracic and/or extra-thoracic sarcoidosis i.e greater than stage 1 radiological disease during a 2 year follow up. The findings will hopefully inform us what the natural history of this cohort is and ultimately whether secondary care follow up is required.
