  • Research summary

    To provide training to health visitors on weighing and measuring 2.5 year old children, using BMI charts with this age group and discussing and supporting healthy weight maintenance in toddlers with parents. A questionnaire will be administered to health visitor’s pre- and post- training and at 4 months post implementation of the BMI charts with families. The questionnaire will include questions on issues such as identifying overweight children at the 2.5 year check and confidence in discussing healthy weight maintenance with parents. Interviews will also be conducted with health visitors post implementation to evaluate the use of the BMI chart during the 2.5 year check.
    To complete qualitative sessions (focus groups or interviews) with parents following the 2.5 year health check to examine their views and experiences of the use of the BMI chart during the health check.
    To plot the BMI of 1000 2 ½ year old children to assess what proportion are overweight or obese
    To Train and assess 40-60 Health visitors knowledge and confidence in identifying and discussing childhood obesity is this feasible and practical
