Research summary
The aim of the current study is to explore the longer term outcomes of a specific type of joint replacement prosthesis for the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ) known as the MatOrtho PIPJ prosthesis.
This is a post-market surveillance study and will build on the earlier work of Flannery et al in 2016 who published the results of a study exploring the short to medium term outcomes of this prosthesis at 2 years follow up.
Patients fitted with a MatOrtho PIPJ replacement prosthesis greater than 10 years ago, will be invited to take part in the study. All participants found to have the original MatOrtho prosthesis still in situ will complete patient reported outcome measures, will undergo a clinical examination (including measurement of their range of movement and grip strength) and will have postero-anterior and lateral X-Ray views of the implants to assess for loosening or migration of the prosthesis.
This information will be used to glean valuable information about the long-term functional outcomes of the implant, the implant survival rate and long-term outocomes in those fitted with the implant.REC name
