Today the World Health Organization has launched the Global Clinical Trials Forum (GCTF), a network designed to strengthen clinical trial environments and infrastructure across the world.
The Health Research Authority is proud to be one of the launch members of the Forum, with representatives from countries across the world.
The GCTF will support the implementation of the World Health Organization’s Guidance for Best Practices for Clinical Trials, which saw the UK recognised as a country with a strong clinical trial infrastructure.
The Health Research Authority was named in the report as an example of an organisation promoting co-ordinated approaches to regulatory and ethics approval for research on health and social care.
By bringing together regulators, funders, researchers and patient organisations from across the world, the forum provides a space for members to share guidance and best practice, all with the aim of strengthening capacity and advancing inclusive, ethical and impactful clinical trials.

Naho Yamazaki, Deputy Director of Policy and Partnerships"We are delighted to be one of the launch members of the Global Clinical Trials Forum.
"Sharing best practice and lesson’s learned with our partners across the world is one of the best ways for us to improve the quality of clinical trials in the UK. That’s a fundamental part of research, learning from others and testing new methods.
“We are already in discussion with others about approaches to ethics review, research transparency, public involvement and how to ensure representative trial populations, and welcome ongoing dialogue through GCTF."
