Dr Richard Tiner

Last updated on 7 Mar 2017

It is with great sadness that we hear of the news of the death of a close friend of the Health Research Authority, Dr Richard Tiner.

A former general practitioner in the South West of England for many years, Richard was medical director of the Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry from 1996 – 2009.

Richard was best known to us at the HRA as a much respected member of the National Research Ethics Advisory Panel, and as chair of our Phase One Advisory Group, where his extensive clinical, industrial and ethical expertise was invaluable. Colleagues remember him as a kind and nice man who was a joy to work with.

His ability to be both cheerful and effective, with the ability to get things done, was reflected in the wide-ranging roles he undertook for many organisations in the health research sector. This included President of the Pharmaceutical Medicines and Research Section of the Royal Society of Medicine, the National Cancer Research Institute Board, the Medical Advisory Board of the General Practice Research Database (GPRD) and the UK Clinical Research Collaboration Board.

He was well thought of by many people and will be sadly missed.
