  • Research summary

    RESEARCH AIM
To examine the existing literature on how we might measure the impact of Digital Storytelling (DS) on health institutions, both in terms of the reported experiences of patients and on organisational practice and outputs, and to apply this through a case study of the existing practice within Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB).
    RESEARCH PROCESS
Work Package 1: to conduct a review of the existing literature to explore what methods and scales exist for measuring the impact of DS and to explore how these might be applied within healthcare settings.
Work Package 2: desk-based research will be carried out using the existing SBUHB archives of DS and associated evidence of the impact of DS within SBUHB. The research team will only have access to those DS that have been created with consent to be shared in the public domain.
Work Package 3: new stories will also be collected from up to 8 key staff (to be identified during the research process). The stories will examine their perceptions of the impact and value of DS within the Health Board. No stories will be collected from patients as part of this research and the researcher will not have access to patient records.
Work package 4: synthesis of the literature review with the findings from SBUHB.

    This will:
    - evidence existing good practice and impact,
    - provide a sound research understanding for developing future DS practice,
    - identify further areas for research around DS for health.
